Karl Kling was a German racing driver who had a short but illustrious career during the 1940s and 1950s, being a member of the famous Mercedes' Silver Arrows team and taking part in eleven Formula One Grand Prix races in 1954 and 1955. In those eleven starts, Kling was on a podium two times. His most famous race was the 1952 Carrera Panamericana, which he won together with Hans Klenk after a
Karl Kling (born 16 Sep 1910 Giessen; died 18 Mar 2003 Gaienhofen). The oldest living Grand Prix driver for some while until his death, he made a return to the Formula 1 paddock at the Nurburgring to compare his Mercedes with then occupants of the 1996 spec, Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard. His last public appearance was in 2000, to celebrate his 90th birthday. Karl Kling never won a Grand Prix, but he may have been one of the most influential people in the history of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport.
